Mind bending museum comes to Manchester
MHA Architects have been appointed to deliver Museum of Illusions' first UK venue in the heard of Manchester this month.
Already a massive hit with more than 50 locations across 25 countries, Museum of Illusions will open its doors on 27 September. MHA have transformed the former retail unit into a haven of mind-altering experiences and illusions, including the world’s first ever optical illusion centred around a tram inspired by Manchester Metrolink where guests appear to be hanging upside down on-board.
As well as already-popular exhibits making their way to Manchester, like a Walk-in Kaleidoscope, a Vortex Tunnel, and the Infinity Room, the museum will feature a wealth of specially-designed and custom-made installations that honour Manchester’s unique culture and history.
Alongside the tram-inspired Reversed Room, other Manchester-themed spaces will include a Following Eyes illusion, where a famous Manchester persona can’t take their eyes away from guests, and a Building illusion, where visitors appear to be hanging from one of the city’s most iconic landmarks.
Founded in Croatia in 2015, there are now Museum of Illusions locations in the likes of Kuala Lumpur, Budapest, Paris, New York, and Dubai. There are also plans in the works for further expansions into the UK, with a future site already eyed up for London.
Steven Buchan, General Manager at Museum of Illusions, said: "We are delighted to have Manchester chosen as the first UK location for Museum of Illusions, as it's known for its vibrant cultural scene, rich history, and reputation as a hub for innovation and creativity. Market Street, with its bustling atmosphere and central location, perfectly complements our mission to make interactive, educational experiences accessible to everyone."
